Ghosts of Christmas: The Lost Traditions – The Kissing Bough

The original kissing bough was created of ash or hazel with the image of Christ in the center.  It was often blessed by a priest and hung inside the home as s symbol for peace to all who visit the home.

Fruit and candles often added to the decorating of the bough.  The traditional vanished with the Puritans and by the time the Victorians revived the kissing bough it was reduced to simple mistletoe.
