Monster Day 12: “The Monster In Comics”

Monster Day 12: “The Monster In Comics”

Frankenstein have appeared in many different forms in comic books over the years.  And may be the only character to have a series in Marvel and rival DC comics as well. (unverified)

But the two main series of comics would have to be Prize comics and Marvel comics.

The Prize comics ran from 1940 to 1954 and it is said that it was this and a few other horror titles that caused the creation of the now familiar Comic Book Code we see on the covers of all comics now. The series featured iconic artwork known for the 1940s and even featured some issues as a direct extension of Mary Shelley’s novel.

The 1970s saw the Marvel Comics Group release a series of monster comics based on the vintage Universal Monsters. The first five issues the title was The Monster of Frankenstein but later changed The Frankenstein Monster and ran for about 18 issues. But this was not the only time Marvel used the Frankenstein monster.  The Monster has appeared in Captain America based titles as a Nazi Monster.
