Monster Day 07: “Universal’s Monsters”

Boris Karloff was not the only actor to portray The Monster during the initial main run of Universal’s Frankenstein set.  The following is the list of those that also donned iconic flat topped head, green/gray skin and large heavy boots:

1: Boris Karloff: Frankenstein (1931), The Bride of Frankenstein (1935), and Son of Frankenstein (1939)

2: Lon Chaney Jr.: The Ghost of Frankenstein (1942) Trivia: Lon Chaney Jr would reprise his other Universal role of the Wolf Man in the next film in the list.

3: Bela Lugosi: Frankenstein meets the Wolf Man (1943) Trivia: Lugosi declined the role of the Monster for the original 1931 film because there was no dialogue.

4: Glenn Strange: House of Frankenstein (1944), House of Dracula (1945), and Abott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948)
